CROWN OF THORNS!

Here’s the deal. We’ve learned a lot of about live performances by watching Dilated Peoples as a unit;Evidence+DJ Babu+Rakaa. For years they’ve given the party people what they want; fresh raps & classic cuts. The last Dilated album, 20/20, dropped in 2006. Since then DJ Babu and Evidence have dropped some solo gems. Now it’s Rakaa turn, be sure to check out Crown Of Thorns.

For most musicians, the first album they release usually holds a special place. It’s also the one most “fans” have in their collection. I know when I go to shows, I want to see the artist do tracks off their classic albums. New stuff is good too, but it takes a minute to get into. The goal is to “get better” each album without throwing your original support for a loop; at the same time welcoming new listeners. With that being said, welcome to Harvest Season. The second album.

CA ALL DAY!

For those who enjoy the sounds of Rebels To The Grain, we thank you. It’s because of groups like the Visionaries who inspired us to rock the way we do. Word up. On this particular day we had two shows. Both at UCR – one at noon, the other at night w/ the Visionaries.

College shows are some of the funnest to do. Being on campus the entire day, you know we had to prepare ourselves and roll a good amount of “puff puff give.” Rocking with the Visionaries was truly humbling. These dudes put it down for Hiphop! Check this dope drop by our peoples.

A Few weeks before this interview we had a chance to catch Tha Alkaholiks live at the Key Club. They did a lot of their classic material and it’s crazy how similar J-Ro sounds on record when he’s on stage. No doubt. We were blessed to have him on the show and learn from someone who’s taken it “Coast II Coast.”

Big up the Alkaholiks for years of great music and countless numbers of hangovers. We also had Mary Maxine, reppin Starbudz. Yes, Star-Budz. That means the good green. Check this real dope session we had with them. It’s well worth it.

Halloween 1995, that’s when Dogg Pound dropped “Dogg Food” & Cypress Hill released “3 Temples of Boom.” Copped both of em’ and got a XXXL Death Row T-Shirt. I was happy. Let’s jump 16 years later and here we are with Eric Bobo live at Spring Gathering.

He was nice enough to chill with us and chop it up about his upcoming project with DJ Rhettmatic: Bobo Meets Rhettmattic. I never knew he started off with the Beastie Boys before he got with Cypress. I guess that’s the point of interviews right, to learn? Spring Gathering Festival is put on By Guerrilla Union and featured The Dogg Pound, Mix Master Mix, Snoop Dogg, Dilated Peoples and more. It’s rare to see an MC & DJ combo still rocking it after all these years. Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel are just that, and have been putting in work! I consider them some of the last “pre-social media” artists to establish themselves. You could add J5, Dilated Peoples, The Visionaries & Zion I to name a few. (From the west)
